About
My approach as a performer is to connect with audiences by communicating directly to their emotions and immersing them into the musical world I create. When I play the cello, I aim to go beyond just showcasing technical skill, and instead, I seek to capture the inner essence of the listener. As a music educator, my objective is to encourage my students to develop their love for music and the cello. By helping them identify their goals, I strive to provide a clear path to attain success.

Jason Mooney has been playing the cello since the age of nine and boasts over ten years of experience teaching and performing professionally. He attained his bachelor's degree at Carnegie Mellon University, studying under Anne Martindale Williams, the principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He later pursued a master's degree at Southern Methodist University, learning from soloist Andres Diaz and the principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony, Christopher Adkins. Jason has worked with notable chamber musicians like Andres Cardenes, Gary Levinson, Yuriy Bekker, Michael Klotz, and Maureen Nelson. He has also attended prestigious music festivals, including the National Orchestral Institute, Meadowmount, Garth Newel, Miami Music Festival, and Brevard. In addition, Jason was featured on Pittsburgh's WQED 89.3 fm, performing J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1. He was also invited by the general consulate of Mexico to perform Latin American music at the Rio Grande Theater in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

When it comes to cello instruction, Jason Mooney stands out as one of the finest teachers I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. Without a doubt, I would recommend him as the ideal choice for anyone seeking a personalized, one-on-one approach that allows them to learn at their own pace.

As an older student of cello and music, I have limited mobility. However, Jason has gone above and beyond by customizing his teaching techniques and topics to cater to my physical limitations. He is an exceptional and patient mentor who prioritizes his students' needs. Jason is responsive and flexible to each student's situation, making him an outstanding educator.
