Andrew Dixon Music Education/Performance
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Andrew Dixon is a multi-talented musician, composer, and educator who has enjoyed international success. His outstanding albums "East Oakland Run Down", "RAGE", and "Renegade" are part of his Epistemology Records label.
While growing up, Andrew honed his skills at numerous jam sessions featuring such jazz luminaries as Von Freeman, Fred Anderson, Maurice Brown, and Greg Ward. After earning his degree in jazz, composition and arranging from the University of Illinois, he went on to perform with celebrated artists like Spoon, The Roots, David Binney, Ambrose Akinmusire, Lyrics Born, Terrell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Jon Faddis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Carlos Santana.
Andrew has graced the stage at several notable festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Tokyo Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival, Phillippine Jazz Festival, Mosaic Music Festival, and more. He has toured extensively throughout several cities worldwide, including Paris, Manila, Singapore, Tokyo, London, L.A., New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Jakarta, Seoul, Oslo, Montreal, Barcelona, and Toronto.
As a devoted educator, Andrew challenges his students to achieve excellence in their musical pursuits. His guidance has helped many students to excel in local youth symphonies in Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, and the Peninsula. They've also received numerous accolades, such as all-state honors, selection to the SFJAZZ High School Ensemble, Monterey Next Gen Band, and the Grammy Band. Andrew's students have furthered their education with impressive scholarships and acceptances to prestigious schools like N.Y.U., U.S.C, and Manhattan School of Music.
