Greetings, lovely people! My name is Lindsay and I feel grateful to have the opportunity to share my journey with you, either on this mat or in person. I am a yoga practitioner, instructor, and student residing in the rapidly growing, fantastic city of Austin, Texas.
My introduction to yoga occurred a dozen years ago at a Bikram studio in Old Town, Scottsdale, while I was attending Arizona State University. I initially perceived yoga as a trendy and chic practice popular among Californians. While participating in what I assumed was the only way to do yoga, Bikram, I endured 90 minutes of near heatstroke and disregarded the sketchy, dirty carpet in the place, all for the love of the practice.
After relocating to Austin, Texas, in 2010, I embarked on a quest to locate a warm spot for tree poses or other yoga practices in 100-plus degree weather. It was then that I stumbled upon a small yoga studio offering a type of yoga I'd never heard of before: vinyasa. This form of yoga, which involved breath-to-movement exercises and allowed for self-expression, reminded me of my past when I was a ballerina. I quickly fell in love with the flowing movements and ten years later, I remain a devoted student.
In June 2019, I completed my first 200-hour certification program in alignment vinyasa under Gioconda Parker, followed by a second 200-hour course that autumn, honing my proficiency in yin, restorative, and yoga nidra. In February 2020, I earned my RYT500 certification upon graduating from Gioconda's 300-hour Yoga + Leadership program via YTX, which emphasized yogic philosophy and the regulation of the nervous system through somatic awareness and bodywork. My interest in yoga stems from my personal experiences with trauma, and my educational trajectory primarily focuses on the intricate relationship between mental health and the body. Through my own healing process, I have been motivated to teach others, consistently believing that if I could find a path to healing via yoga, then others could as well.
When not contorted on the mat, I can usually be found exploring the outdoors or curled up with a book. I am an avid reader and lover of literature, and writing is both my passion and profession. Additionally, I am a mother, a romantic partner, an aspiring cosmologist, a music aficionado, and an amateur cook.
