As a coach for Person-Centered Planning at the New York State Department of Health, I work with numerous individuals every day. My coaching focuses on facilitating access to the larger community, starting or finding employment in an inclusive environment or home-based business, engaging in community activities, and managing personal resources. I also strive to ensure that individuals receive all available services in their community, while protecting their rights to privacy, respect, and freedom from coercion or restraint. My coaching approach emphasizes optimizing an individual's initiative, autonomy, and independence in life choices, including making choices about the services and supports they receive and who provides them.
