About
Greetings, dear students! My name is Chiyo, and I will be serving as your Japanese tutor and teacher. You may refer to me as Chiyo-sensee. I have been involved in Japanese language instruction since 2006 and am currently teaching classes for high school students in the Houston area. I work with students of all ages and proficiency levels, and am happy to create or adjust an existing curriculum based on your unique needs. My lessons are always enjoyable and foster a relaxing learning environment. As an added incentive, I am offering a 30-minute free trial lesson so that you can experience the benefits of my teaching firsthand. Don't hesitate to join me on a journey of Japanese language learning. Please note that my evening hours are currently full, with Sunday being the only open slot available. My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

For nearly 18 months, I have had the pleasure of working with Chiyo Sensei and have enjoyed each lesson thoroughly. To attain AP Japanese by the 12th grade, I had to take an intensive course during the summer to skip a year of Japanese. It was only possible because of Chiyo Sensei's guidance.
She also provided valuable assistance during the academic year as I had a year less of Japanese experience than my classmates. Thanks to her diligent instruction, I have surpassed my original Japanese language proficiency goals. I am continuing my studies with Chiyo Sensei and am making steady progress.

Before traveling to Japan, I met Chiyo-sensee in California and had weekly hour-long Japanese lessons with her. Working with her was a wonderful experience and made a huge difference on my trip.
In Japan, English is mainly spoken in critical places such as airports or larger hotels. The majority of Japanese people don't speak English and few tourists speak Japanese. Knowing how to ask for directions or order food in Japanese can make a big difference, and people respond positively when you make an effort to speak their language. In fact, sometimes restaurant staff would respond and bow in unison when I said "Thank you" in Japanese, making it a lot of fun.
Chiyo-sensee is an excellent teacher and I highly recommend her. She knows how to guide her students to progress and works tirelessly to ensure their success. When I started, I had no knowledge of Japanese, but she recommended a textbook and immediately started teaching me essential phrases and the phonetic Japanese alphabets. Her lessons were always engaging and challenging.
I took lessons from her for just over a year, and she always gave me her undivided attention during each lesson. Chiyo-sensee is exceptional at identifying areas where a student might need help and expertly leading them through the material. Her patience and attention to detail make her a rare find in a teacher or tutor, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn or improve their Japanese.

The lessons are incredibly enjoyable and engaging, despite only lasting 45 minutes. In fact, they seem to fly by because they are so enjoyable. I am delighted that my spouse and I decided to take these lessons. We connect through Skype during the weekends.
