About
I am a piano teacher who offers lessons in southeast Tucson, Austin, and worldwide via online video conferencing technology. My teaching style is engaging, enjoyable, and creative, designed to foster a love of music at the piano. With online lessons, you can save time, energy, and avoid the hassle of traffic. In-person lessons are also available in select neighborhoods of southeast Tucson.My goal is to help students discover and maintain the joy of playing music at the piano for a lifetime. I work with students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. Private piano lessons are tailored to each student's interests, goals, and abilities. My approach combines structure and discipline with freedom and exploration to help students tap into their inner musical talent.
I am a university-educated classical pianist and pedagogue providing world-class piano instruction. I have received several awards and distinctions, including being voted one of the best piano teachers in Austin, TX, by Expertise.com since 2018. I am also the recipient of two Top Music Teacher awards from the renowned piano manufacturer, Steinway & Sons.

For a few years now, James has been an outstanding piano teacher to my daughter. He exudes a passion for his craft that motivates and encourages my daughter to learn and, most importantly, practice! Additionally, James is remarkably easy to talk to, and he always responds promptly to our messages and emails.
It started pre-COVID when my daughter began taking lessons with James, and although we miss the in-person experience, James's smooth transition to video lessons has been commendable. I highly recommend his teaching services.

Working with James for several years has been an enjoyable experience. As an unusual student who began learning at the age of 79, I have appreciated his skills as a great teacher and coach, making learning the piano and music theory interesting, keeping me thoroughly engaged. Although progress may be slower than for those younger with more flexible brains, I have successfully acquired piano proficiency and theoretical knowledge from him. Despite the challenging times of COVID, James has devised a successful Zoom-based instruction that, while not as ideal as personal interaction, works remarkably well. Without hesitation, I highly recommend James to anyone who wishes to learn to play the piano.
