About
With over two decades of experience, I have instructed music to individuals of all ages, spanning from 8 to 80 years old. My expertise includes teaching private lessons, ensembles, music theory, and composition. I spent a decade teaching at the University of Maine in Augusta, as well as at Bowdoin and Bates Colleges. I have also conducted music clinics worldwide, including in Japan, Russia, and the US.

As of late, I have moved towards teaching at home and online to provide optimal flexibility for both myself and my students. I have been teaching online for more than 15 years and have witnessed the positive impact technology can have on remote learning. I have developed my own teaching approach, incorporating the available technology while circumventing the usual difficulties encountered by both students and instructors.

Whether in-person or virtual, I am enthusiastic about collaborating with you, and together we can achieve your musical aspirations!

Greg is an exceptional professional musician who has the ability to cater to inexperienced or recreational students. He possesses professionalism, expertise, and patience and provides truthful feedback regarding his student's progress and required direction. Even skilled bassists could further enhance their abilities with Greg's guidance. As a beginner seeking to improve and progress, I have greatly benefited from his teachings. I strongly recommend him. Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of working with Greg Loughman and it has been a truly enlightening and fruitful experience. Not only is he an exceptional upright bass player, but also a highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic educator. I wholeheartedly recommend Greg to anyone who is interested in studying upright bass.
