About
Hi, my name is Elijah and I am a musician. My musical journey began in fourth grade when I first picked up the saxophone. I continued playing throughout middle and high school, while attending classes at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and being a part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra. It was during this time that I also discovered the bass guitar. Growing up, I was always surrounded by music, but it wasn't until I heard Take Five by Paul Desmond at age five that I became interested in jazz. From that moment, my passion for jazz deepened and I began to explore more of the genre. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis was the first jazz album I owned, and I soon began to listen to the likes of John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Sonny Rollins. It was through their music that I discovered my desire to become a professional musician.
What I loved about these jazz greats was not just their raw talent, but their ability to bring out a range of emotions from their listeners in a single song. Music, to me, is a way to express myself beyond words. When I am feeling low, playing jazz always brings me comfort.
My ultimate goal is to share my love for music and the saxophone with others, hoping to inspire and connect through the power of sound.
