About
Teaching guitar is a form of art. Being a great player does not automatically qualify you as an excellent teacher. It is not uncommon for guitarists to claim they are music teachers without a proper teaching plan. My intention is not to belittle anyone, but many individuals consider themselves teachers merely because they can play an instrument. These self-proclaimed "teachers" lack a solid roadmap to move from point A to point B and may end up improvising during their lessons. Over the past 30 years, I have developed a teaching plan that not only equips you with the necessary skills for playing the guitar but also teaches you to figure out how to play something by yourself, without relying on your instructor. My goal is to provide you with the concepts that a real musician requires, which are applicable in most musical scenarios. I can teach you as much or as little as you want, based on your musical goals.Watching my students grasp a concept is an incredible experience. Witnessing the mental light bulb turn on and seeing smiles and enthusiasm on their faces excites me. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, especially when the light switch is turned on!

For approximately four months, I have been receiving guitar lessons from Ricky, who is an incredible instructor! He excels at making our sessions enjoyable and interesting by incorporating the concepts we are studying into music I enjoy. Having decades of guitar experience, Ricky Katz is an exceptional teacher who is also affordable. He showcases a genuine interest in the wellbeing of his students and goes the extra mile to spark their enthusiasm for the instrument. Under his tutelage, I am motivated to spend countless hours practicing my guitar, thanks to his ability to make learning fun both during and outside of our lessons. Possessing in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, Ricky is understanding and patient, allowing him to impart his expertise in theory, reading music, or just playing some tunes for leisure. In May, I began my guitar journey with Ricky, lacking any prior experience with the instrument and leading a busy life as a 29-year-old high school mathematics teacher. Despite my reservations about rock music, I hoped to play popular songs from a variety of genres simply for the thrill of jamming with friends. Ricky's lessons were tailored to my tastes at any given time, spanning from RnB to EDM trap music, with a primary emphasis on enjoyment. My sole homework assignment was to take my guitar out of its bag as often as possible. Ricky remained flexible with scheduling, responding promptly to any reasonable requests. I highly recommend a trial lesson with Ricky for about $30 to experience his valuable teaching style and become more comfortable with the instrument.
