I ended up paying an amount that exceeded the initial quote, albeit not by much. The technician was prompt and presented himself well, conducting a comprehensive examination and cleaning of my air conditioning units. He also successfully installed two thermostats, which appear to be functioning correctly. In addition, he provided me with information about my equipment's state and will be sending over replacement quotes.
