Brad Mulholland

I am a skilled educator and performer, specializing in saxophone, flute, and clarinet, and located in the Lower Hudson Valley and NYC area. I am an active participant in the music scene, performing with a diverse range of bands and artists ranging from modern jazz to R&B, and have extensive experience in musical theatre and classical music.

With over 12 years of teaching experience, I have helped countless students achieve their goals, including being accepted into prestigious high school programs and receiving exceptional ratings at NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals.

My love for music began in middle school when I joined the school band in Georgetown, KY. I quickly gravitated towards the saxophone and later added the clarinet and flute to my repertoire. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I studied classical and jazz, and earned my Master’s in Music from NYU, focusing on modern jazz and improvisation.

I believe music and language are closely connected, and my teaching philosophy reflects that. I approach each student as an individual, acknowledging their learning style and tailoring my lessons to suit their needs. I draw on my vast experience in teaching and learning music to find the best approach, whether it be through repetition, thoughtful analysis, or immersion.

I believe in teaching music holistically, and as well as teaching the technical and theoretical aspects of music, I strive to foster an appreciation of music history and culture. I encourage my students to listen to a diverse range of music, play along with me as much as possible, and learn about the personalities and stories behind each style.

My ultimate goal is to help my students achieve fluency and mastery in the language of music so they can express themselves fully and achieve their dreams.
