About
I offer comprehensive piano lessons to students of all ages and abilities, covering classical, pop, and jazz genres. Additionally, I incorporate essential elements - such as aural training, sight singing, and theory - into my teachings for both piano and viola instruction.

Furthermore, I am active in the music industry as a performer, composer, and orchestra conductor. Although classically trained, I have an appreciation for pop, jazz, and diverse cultural music.

My extensive experience in music education includes earning the National Music Competition 2nd prize in Taiwan, as well as winning the top prize for piano in the Cathay Pacific Airline Music Competition, one of the most prestigious youth music contests in Asia. I graduated from Taiwan's premier music school with the first prize, and earned a music fellowship in the US, as well as a full scholarship for graduate school.

My music background includes learning from Betty Yang, a celebrated pianist who was the first Chinese musician to win the Geneva International Piano Competition. I also benefited from the French music education system while studying at a top Taiwanese music school. My students benefit from the same lessons and experiences which have helped me excel in my music career.

Over the years, I have taught 18 students who successfully passed their ABRSM exams, with 70% receiving distinction in both piano and theory categories. During the spring of 2017, one-third of Bay Area participants who earned the highest distinction category from ABRSM were my piano students.

ABRSM is considered the gold standard in the music industry and globally recognized for its certification system. As the most distinguished ABRSM award earner in the Bay Area, I am proud to share my passion for music with my students and observe their growth and progress.

For half a year now, Lin Chiao has been instructing me in playing the piano. We hold a weekly 45-minute session at my abode. As an inexperienced adult, having a tutor like Lin allows for guidance and comprehension of what a musical piece ought to sound like. Despite the numerous errors I've made, Lin has been patient and adjusts the complexity of the material to my level of proficiency. Additionally, she offers more challenging work if I desire. Lin is not only a skilled educator but is also amicable and well-versed in piano playing techniques. I am eager to continue our collaboration and intend to have Lin commence teaching my 8-year-old daughter soon.

From this spring on, I began taking piano lessons as an adult. The experience has been wonderful thus far, with Lin Chiao consistently punctual and imparting a wealth of knowledge through her teaching.

Yesterday, Lin Chiao broke my daughter's heart. We had agreed for my daughter to come out at 2:45 pm, but by 3:15 pm, there was still no sign of her. After reaching out, Lin informed me that she was in San Mateo, which was more than 45 minutes away. She suggested coming at 4:45 pm instead, to which I agreed. However, Lin later sent another message saying that it was not going to work out. I am very disappointed with her and would not recommend wasting your time with her, as she will only break your child's heart.

CrackerJack, thank you so much! I just had a trial music lesson with a fantastic instructor who clearly knows what she's doing and is incredibly passionate about her craft. I couldn't be happier with the experience.

For over a year, Lin has been imparting piano lessons to my two sons, which has been an absolute delight. Witnessing their progress has filled us with immense satisfaction. Lin, being highly considerate, ensures that her lessons cater to each child's likes and requirements, thus making the learning experience all the more engaging. I cannot recommend her enough.
