My flute lessons include both in-person sessions at my home studio in Sacramento as well as online lessons via Zoom, available in English and Español. I strongly believe in the transformative power of music education, regardless of age or skill level. Whether you are a professional aiming for excellence or someone who simply enjoys playing in your free time, I hold high standards for all my flute students.
Our lessons focus on a range of skills, including developing tone, technique, practice habits, music theory, and musicality. In addition, I encourage my students to prioritize personal fitness, recognizing the physically demanding nature of playing the flute. I recommend that my students participate in a gym, sports team, or pursue their own fitness goals.
I received my musical education in Mesa, Arizona, starting with violin at the young age of four before transitioning to the flute in fifth grade. Throughout high school, I played in several highly regarded ensembles, including the Arizona Regional and All-State Band and Orchestra, before continuing my musical education at California State University, Sacramento. There, I played in both the orchestra and wind ensemble.
I have had the privilege of studying under some incredible musicians, including Jim Walker, Sarah Jackson, Rose Lombardo, Laurel Zucker, Jeffrey Barker, and Cathie Apple. I have participated in several chamber ensembles, playing at weddings, parties and events, including those sponsored by the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute. I have also performed at the national opening of the Portraits of Courage exhibition and for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona fundraiser gala.
Throughout my musical journey, I have had the guidance and mentorship of several talented teachers, including Beth McGraw, a former flute player in the Des Moines Symphony, Albuquerque Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. I have also learned from Joe Corral, former flute player in the Phoenix Symphony and renowned jazz artist, as well as celebrated flute virtuoso Laurel Zucker and Diana Morgan, former piccolo player in the San Diego Symphony and current flute and piccolo faculty at the Colburn School.
