Attention homeowners! Be cautious when considering Tough Guys as a contractor. My experience with them was one of the WORST I've ever had. They were not skilled enough to handle the breadth of my project, and their lack of experience became immediately apparent. To start, the contractor violated Chapter 142A- Section 2.6 by requiring a 50% deposit upfront, as opposed to the maximum 1/3 outlined in Mass law. I neglected to check for this, so be sure to review HIC laws if you're not familiar. For context, I had completely gutted my home to have everything replaced with new electrical, plumbing, floors, walls, doors, appliances, and kitchen. Unfortunately, the quality of workmanship from Tough Guys was far below professional standards. On March 5th, I noticed issues with the drywall installation, and immediately relayed my concerns to the team on-site during my visit on the 6th. My partner and I were forced to commute 148 miles round-trip over the next six days to oversee their work. Despite my request to stop the work briefly and discuss how to properly handle the project, the contractor refused to comply and the workers continued. It became apparent that the drywall was improperly installed and lacking internal wall strapping, leading to numerous errors throughout the house. After three attempts, although some areas look decent, most of the drywall needs to be replaced. Additionally, the contractors cut fourteen random holes in the ceiling and refused to replace the damaged drywall. Instead, the workers were instructed to patch the holes with patchwork solutions that don't meet industry standards. Furthermore, the bathroom was not outfitted with moisture barrier drywall, and the shower tile floor was installed without proper pitch for water drainage. It will require me to remove the floor, purchase new materials, pay for installation, and conduct extensive repairs. The contractor built the wall tile too far out, created a small separation from the window to the shower area, used a bathroom threshold that's too large, and tiled the bathroom before installing drywall. Several other issues occurred wasting more of my time and money, such as closets that were not framed according to the dimensions of the door, incorrect placement of electric outlets and wiring in the kitchen, and the neglect of adding a dryer vent (among other change orders that were not authorized and just done without permission). After realizing the extent of their poor work, I terminated my contract with Tough Guys on 3/13/23. I recommend avoiding Tough Guys altogether after having to 'rebuild' a significant portion of my gut renovation project while being left with a large bill.

Wally and Daniel are both pleasant individuals. However, they did not live up to my expectations in terms of their advertised expertise. To improve their services, they should work on their planning skills when communicating with customers. It was quite frustrating for me to have to take on much of the responsibility for a relatively basic task of resurfacing and installing rails on my current deck.

Although we ultimately decided not to hire Wally and his team for our project, we were impressed by his professionalism, punctuality, and prompt responses to my inquiries. Additionally, his suggestions for revamping our deck were excellent. It is likely that they would have performed an outstanding job!

The service was expected to be completed within 3 days but instead took 8 days and was of poor quality. Although they were meant to return to rectify the issue, they failed to attend. I had higher expectations for the job.

In May 2021, I engaged Wally and his team to undertake basement renovations/finishings project which is still in progress. Nonetheless, I am extremely pleased with their work quality and intend to engage them for more projects. Both Wally and Daniel exhibit politeness, professionalism, punctuality, and remarkable honesty in their assessments and estimates. As the project reaches completion, I will update this review.
