I am an award-winning drummer and percussionist based in Cleveland. I had my first professional gig at the age of nine, and in 2002 ranked as runner-up in the Guitar Center National Drum-Off competition. Since the mid-2000s, I've been a highly sought-after sideman, playing with Jazz, Blues, Rock and Funk groups in my hometown. As a working musician, I regularly played more than 150 engagements each year throughout Northeast Ohio.
In 2016, I graduated from the New School for Jazz in New York City, studying with renowned musicians like Bobby Sanabria, Matt Wilson, Jamey Haddad and The Clayton Brothers. I've had the opportunity to perform and record with celebrated songwriters and producers in New York and Cleveland, while also touring extensively with bands based in Cleveland, New York City and Detroit.
As an educator, I've taught private and group lessons for Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School and High School Jazz Academies in New York City, and at Stebal Drums and Progressive Arts Alliance in Ohio.
My musical philosophy revolves around "good sound and good time." To achieve this, I focus on developing strong fundamental techniques, critical and active listening skills, and the ability to read music. Additionally, I encourage exploring creativity and individuality, as well as studying the historical and cultural contexts of the different styles of drumming. I aim to not only help students become better drummers and musicians, but also more thoughtful and empathetic individuals. My specialties include teaching Rock and Jazz, Funk and Afro-Cuban drumming, and hand percussion.
