Though the surface appearance is satisfactory, there were shortcuts taken during the installation process. My basement bathroom was remodeled by Mike last year, and while I was pleased with the final outcome, my experience would only merit 4 stars. Each slight modification, even when aligned with my initial requests, increased the cost. Additionally, upon completion, I noticed that the bathroom was not left tidy, and the use of silicon caulk was carelessly applied and smudged on my new floor. I was informed that cleaning up the mess was my responsibility. Though not a significant issue, this left me feeling as though I didn't receive a 5-star experience.
On the subject of tile installation, workers were cutting tiles in my basement utility closet, leaving the area covered in white dust. As this is an extremely unclean process and my utility room houses my furnace, I asked Mike to have the workers cut the tiles outside. Though he initially agreed, the workers were still working within the house the next day. I had to insist that they proceed outside.
Now, fast forward to May 2022. After installing a new furnace/HVAC system, I began noticing an unpleasant sewage smell emanating from my bathroom. I had attempted to remedy the problem myself using drain backflow preventers and gas checks, but to no avail. When doing some touch-up painting and caulking work, I became even more aware of the smell being strongest around the toilet. Desperate to find the source, I got down on my hands and knees and discovered that the toilet was not attached to the floor. Instead, the crew had attempted to glue it in place with an excessive amount of caulk, which they used as adhesive. As a result, they left an open hole underneath the toilet. I immediately contacted a plumber, who removed the toilet and discovered the issue. He rectified it for a hefty price, ensuring that the toilet was installed correctly and without any caulk. Since then, the smell has completely disappeared.
In summary, Mike's team proves proficient when it comes to tile installation. However, with regards to plumbing installation, shortcuts are taken, and nothing is done thoroughly. To avoid any unfavorable issues going forward, I strongly recommend inspecting everything before any permanent installations are made. Hiring a third-party inspector to examine the work may also be beneficial.
