Description:

As a professional musician, I've made a career playing drums and percussion in Los Angeles T.V. studios and on Tour. With teachings from notable instructors such as Fred Gruber, Joe Porcaro, and a degree from the respected Dick Grove School of Music Hollywood, I bring firsthand experience from the industry right to my lesson room. In my lessons, students learn traditional rudiments and techniques by recording songs alongside professional musicians on drummer-less recordings, providing them with an authentic, professional experience. I offer competitive pricing and a flexible scheduling range.

If you're interested in taking lessons, please note that I'm located in Houston, TX and teach out of a fully equipped recording studio. If you reside outside the Houston area, lessons will only be available through Zoom or a similar platform. Additionally, I require children under the age of 10 to have at least one year of experience with the piano or another instrument, and an adult must be present during online sessions.

My teaching caters to all skill levels, ranging from ages 6 to 85, with varying instruments such as snare drum, drum set, congas, djembe, and hand percussion. I personalize lessons for each student, avoiding a cookie-cutter approach and prioritizing an enjoyable and effective learning experience. For Houston-based students, upon mastering a song, I provide a professionally engineered CD of the student playing along with the tune, as well as an MP3 download link for sharing with friends and family.

Tuition fees are due on the first of every month and invoices are sent 10 days prior. Payment may be made through cash, checks, or major credit cards. I offer discounts for those that drive more than 15 miles to reach my Houston-based studio.

As a goodwill gesture, I offer one free "Get to Know You Lesson". Thank you for considering me as your instructor.

Best regards,
Paul

For a year and a half now, I have been taking drum lessons from the incredibly talented and experienced musician and teacher, Paul. Learning from him has been a breeze as he makes it fun and easy to pick up new skills. As a percussionist for a church praise band, it has been especially helpful that Paul customizes the lessons to fit my specific needs and areas for growth. Paul's professional studio is incredibly well-equipped, and he incorporates the latest tools and techniques for efficient and effective learning and practice. One thing that I particularly appreciate is how he records my progress with each song I work on, which provides a clear goal that motivates me to keep learning and improving. Whenever he completes a recording, it feels like a significant achievement, and it inspires me to work even harder on the next challenge. Overall, I highly recommend Paul to anyone looking to learn or bolster their percussionist skills. His expertise, teaching, and studio are unparalleled, and I have learned so much from him.

My son had the privilege of taking lessons from Paul, an outstanding teacher for many years. It was delightful to see how parents could observe the lessons and understand their kids' progress. Paul has not only demonstrated his phenomenal teaching skills but also his compassionate and friendly personality. He was very cooperative whenever we had to reschedule or face unexpected situations. The overall experience was fantastic! The only regret is that my son had to give up drums for girls!

I had a blast attending my drum lessons, discovering new tunes, and collaborating with my instructor. I have no doubt that I'll return for more in the forthcoming days.

I am a pupil at Paul's studio, where he provides lessons for drums. There are several aspects of Paul's teaching style that I admire, but I am particularly grateful for his expertise, professionalism, and aptitude for teaching. As a legal practitioner with a hobby for drumming, I value Paul's flexibility when scheduling sessions. Additionally, he is an excellent instructor who can elucidate intricate notions while ensuring that classes remain entertaining. Paul is the ideal teacher if one desires to learn how to play the drums correctly and enjoyably. I highly recommend him!

Paul became my son's music teacher after he was rejected from the school band in middle school, due to the popularity of another boy who only lasted one month. Jesse continued his lessons with Paul, whom he nicknamed "Mr Kush," all the way through college. The chances given to him by Paul helped Jesse to develop his love for music, which he practiced daily. Furthermore, Paul was very kind as to assist Jesse with his mentorship project during senior year, despite the workload. Jesse still plays the drums, collaborating with various bands and friends in the music industry. Therefore, we consider Paul a dear friend and mentor, who goes above and beyond to support his students' success.
