Following a sedentary few months during lockdown after my last pregnancy, I teamed up with Megan and Alyssa in February 2021 to capitalize on my recent weight loss and build strength. I am delighted to share that my progress has been outstanding, prompting me to move onto the alumni program after completing the initial three months. In search of a trainer for my extended work from home period, I had four specific criteria in mind. Firstly, I wanted someone with a physical therapist's knowledge of improving joint mobility. Secondly, I needed a practical approach to fitness and strength training that accommodated my age group (40 years and above). Thirdly, I desired to feel accountable to someone warm and relatable who supported my personal goals. Finally, I sought a program that would prepare my body for kayaking and stand-up paddling this summer.
I opted for the starter package of two-hour sessions per week, spread over three months. Working with Alyssa was an experience that exceeded my expectations. I gained profound insights into practical tools such as C.A.R.S., which improved my overall joint health, control, and became my joint health assessment tool. Thanks to her, my posture is better, and the range of motion in my hips and back has increased considerably.
I've adopted hard-style kettlebell workouts and now confidently swing a 35 lb bell, something that was previously unimaginable. This approach has helped me grow leaner muscles in my core and legs within a short time, which met my desired outcomes for strength training. Each session lasts only thirty minutes, is enjoyable, and produces quick results. Currently, we are focused on strengthening my shoulders and arms to prepare me for my water adventures this summer.
Alyssa is always refining her skills and knowledge by attaining new virtual classes and training sessions during the COVID period. Every month, I benefit by learning new joint health and mobility techniques that enhance my understanding. Most importantly, Alyssa is great to talk with and share stories without getting sidetracked, all while pushing me without punishing my body like previous trainers. I've already recommended her to a friend and assure anyone interested they won't be disappointed.
