I am James Thomas, proud owner and trainer of Owana Dog Training Services. My passion lies in resolving dog behavior problems and helping pet owners establish a healthy relationship with their furry friends. I use a balanced approach, specifically the Nepopo methodology, which involves teaching with pressure. Nepopo represents negative, positive, positive; where the first two work together, like a light switch, with pressure on and then off. Leash pressure is an example of negative pressure used to teach commands, followed by removing the pressure once the dog completes the command, resulting in a self-rewarding behavior. The last positive is reinforcement where a dog is given something they value. I use all quadrants of operant conditioning. My teaching style is fair, structured, and holds dogs accountable for non-compliance. I use clear boundaries and expectations for dogs to understand what I want from them. I firmly believe in interrupting, correcting, or punishing unwanted behaviors in dogs to redirect their conduct. My honesty, straightforwardness and skills have been honed since 2004.
