Hi there! I'm Kathy Petersen, and I founded Opus Music Academy. I teach piano, ukulele, and flute, and received my degree in Music Therapy from Augsburg University in Minneapolis. With over a decade of teaching experience, I opened Opus in December 2018 because I'm passionate about connecting people through music. Along with my team of instructors, I offer both private and group lessons for all instruments, as well as musical theater and vocals, and we're available for special occasions like weddings and parties. Our mission is to make music accessible to busy people, so we partner with local organizations and offer scholarships, virtual lessons, and in-home services. Additionally, we provide onsite music lessons to working adults in co-working facilities.
At Opus, we prioritize building positive, trusting relationships with our students and their families. We communicate consistently, follow up regularly, and serve as a constant resource for our families. We consider all of our students to be part of the Opus family, and we offer monthly performance opportunities for both teachers and students. Kathy is truly exceptional! Though I lack any background in music or instruments, she tailored her approach to fit my level of skill. Furthermore, she provided me with ample assignments and exercises to complete at home, which is incredibly helpful as it ensures there is always something to work on. Her positive and motivating attitude towards my progress keeps me motivated and committed, despite the inherent difficulty that comes with learning the piano.

Opus customizes instruction in order to cater to our specific requirements. Our child thoroughly enjoys each lesson and daily practice because they are not just beneficial, but also enjoyable!
