The personal statement provides an opportunity for the admissions officer to delve into the student's world and gain insight into their perspectives, experiences, and motivations. Rather than reiterating their academic achievements, the personal statement should showcase the student's individuality and what drives them. Unfortunately, many students make the mistake of simply regurgitating their resumes.
In order to create an effective personal statement, I work with students to uncover captivating stories that accurately convey their character traits, personalities, and values. By conducting thorough interviews and digging into their unique experiences, we can create an authentic statement that represents who they are as individuals. I then edit the document with the student, ensuring that it is polished, grammatically correct, and free of any redundancies.
Supplemental essays are another opportunity for students to showcase their individuality, and I guide them through the brainstorming and editing process for each one.
