Description:

Greetings and thank you for considering me as your instructor!

Are you striving to enhance your skills?
Are you seeking inspiration?
Are you yearning for a teacher who can blend structure with enjoyment?
Are you searching for an instructor who will teach you the music YOU desire to learn?

Having over 20 years of teaching experience in various settings such as K-12 public schools, private lessons, and university instruction, I am competent to instruct you. Currently, I am a Graduate Teaching Fellow in music theory at the University of Oregon where I lead undergraduate music theory and ear training classes. Furthermore, I am a skilled performer, having toured with bands that are currently an integral part of the national country music scene, as well as bands established in the Los Angeles music scene. Additionally, I am a classically trained guitarist with bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Guitar Performance. I aspire to share my fervor for the guitar and Music Theory with you, and support you in attaining all of your educational goals. Teaching is a thrilling and significant aspect of my career, and I am delighted to provide you with all the knowledge you require to learn whatever you desire.

I take pleasure in teaching! Since the age of five when I created a small classroom in my parents' basement, I have been keen on instructing. Since then, I have taught in three different states, at the University of Colorado, and maintained my private teaching studio. Teaching is not just an intermediate job for me - it is my chief devotion. I take pleasure in sharing the gift of guitar and music with my students. My goal is to support each student in attaining new "ah ha" moments in every lesson, and propel them to achieve their aspirations.

Micheal possesses remarkable teaching abilities. He displays sophistication, knowledge, and expertise in both playing and instructing the guitar. His preparation for lessons is superb, and he makes it easy for his students to interact with and comprehend the material. Additionally, he exhibits exceptional follow-through skills. When I was in search of a guitar instructor, I considered multiple individuals. However, Micheal stood out because he wanted to discuss my goals and current skill level before scheduling a trial lesson. I was particularly grateful for his thoughtfulness as a septuagenarian retiree, which may not be the norm for someone learning guitar. Before our trial lesson, he sent me a plethora of music resources and asked for my feedback to evaluate my progress. He utilized the information I provided to customize my first lesson, which proved to be productive. His attention to detail and readiness for instruction is a quality unlike any other. In our virtual lessons, Micheal communicates candidly and concisely. He helped me overcome the "death grip" of my left hand by explaining the necessary amount of force needed on the strings. With his direction, he also provided exercises to improve my playing. Although I didn't disclose that I had arthritis in my left hand, Micheal's guidance has been invaluable. Furthermore, Micheal has an affable demeanor and humorous disposition which makes him pleasant and easy to work with. He's quick to correct any errors, but always in a positive manner with a desire to help. Ultimately, whether a music major in college or an OG looking to learn guitar in retirement, Micheal is an excellent long-term partner for improving one's skills. I wholeheartedly recommend him.

Last week, I had my initial lesson with Mike. Despite playing for 20 years, I felt stuck in a rut, constantly repeating the same songs without any challenge. I previously took lessons for four months, albeit a few years back, but it didn't meet my expectations. However, my first session with Mike left me feeling as if this was the type of lesson I should have received long ago. Within an hour, he was able to pinpoint my areas of difficulty and helped me with my positioning and pressure problems. His personality is friendly, and his teaching approach is straightforward, making learning easy. Initially, I was apprehensive about online lessons, but Mike quickly put me at ease. After only one lesson, I've seen an improvement in my positioning, unintentional habits are dwindling, and I'm even re-setting my skills for the better. I can't wait to continue my lessons with him! I fully endorse him!

I have just completed my initial session with Michael. Being primarily a bass player and a guitar player who was mostly self-taught and exasperated, I discovered Michael's teaching technique to be enlightening and captivating. He adopts a practical approach to instruction and has a good sense of humor. He inspired me to explore new techniques to improve my guitar playing using a natural method. I am eagerly anticipating our next lesson and the future ones that follow.

I decided to give guitar lessons a shot for the first time, and opted for the Zoom platform. Michael's positive reviews caught my attention and I contemplated enlisting his services. Michael impressed me with his thorough response, addressing my experience level and what I wished to gain from the lessons. He is a patient, well-informed and straightforward instructor. Although I have only completed one session with him, it was extremely pleasurable, and I am eager to continue learning with him.

Before my lessons with Michael, I believed I knew how to play the guitar. However, he taught me a crucial lesson, which was to keep it simple. With his guidance, guitar playing and music theory became more straightforward than I'd ever imagined, and my interest quickly transformed from enjoyment to fascination. It was an incredible experience!
