With 20 years of experience as a professional musician, I've had the opportunity to tour internationally, record and release music. I received my education in music from New York University and have played in a variety of groups, including rock, soul and funk, dance, jazz, and orchestral.
Currently, I serve as faculty at Brooklyn Music School and have been teaching private lessons for several years. I am also a member of indie dance band Poolside, where I perform as the singer and bass player. Previously, I spent many years as a bass player, singer, keyboardist, and songwriter for The Rapture, with whom I released two major label albums and toured across four continents. Throughout my career, I've collaborated with renowned producers such as Timbaland, Paul Epworth, Danger Mouse, and James Murphy, making me well-equipped to impart my wealth of musical knowledge to others.
To me, music is all about taste and feel. I believe that the bass guitar is essential to shaping the rhythmic pulse of the band, while the keyboard can define a song's harmonic and emotional boundaries. When teaching, I focus on helping students develop their listening and feeling skills, rather than inundating them with technical exercises (although those are important too). I strive to instill in my students the mind and heart of a musician, encouraging them to explore different styles and approaches to music through the songs that interest them. During our lessons, we work on timing and feel, reading music, writing and improvisation, and more.
