I am Dr. Brandon Schiller, a former associate professor in the structural engineering department at UC San Diego. With over 15 years of experience, I have been tutoring students from kindergarten to post-college, driven by my passion for learning and teaching. My ultimate goal is to inspire confidence in my students to gain mastery in their desired fields, to succeed outside the classroom.
Regardless of skill level in math, physics, or civil/structural engineering, I strongly believe that every student can excel with the right guidance. Based on my extensive experience, I have found that many students face challenges because of inadequate teaching methods that do not align with their learning styles. Thus, I customize my teaching approach based on individual needs to facilitate conceptual understanding, not just memorization for exams. As individuals, we all have varied learning styles and unique needs, and my philosophy revolves around these key tenets.
Though I am a Ph.D. graduate in Structural Engineering from UC San Diego, the most significant advantage that I bring to the table is my ability to connect with students of all ages. Being only 28 years old, I understand how to connect with students and facilitate mutual understanding. I have been tutoring and teaching in academic settings for over 13 years, and I use this experience to create the most effective learning environment for my students. My approach caters to each student's learning style while remaining focused on the broader objectives.
I have a range of qualifications to support my experience as a tutor and teacher, including a Doctorate of Philosophy, Masters of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering, all from UC San Diego. Furthermore, I have held various teaching assistant and professor roles in the Structural Engineering department at UCSD, teaching various undergraduate- and graduate-level courses.

For over a year, Brandon has tutored my three children in math and has done an exceptional job teaching each of them. His talent lies in explaining concepts in a way they can understand, and he has the ability to teach at varying grade levels. Though our children were in grades ranging from third to seventh, I know he can accommodate even beyond that. Brandon ensures that they fully comprehend homework topics, and he goes further by giving follow-up questions and problems to reinforce their understanding. During the quarantine spring of 2020, he provided much-needed help with homeschooling, and he also tutored them over the summer to keep their math skills sharp.
