INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS:
With an MFA in composition from the California Institute of the Arts and a BM summa cum laude in composition from California State University, Los Angeles, I bring a wealth of experience to my instrumental lessons. My passion for music spans across various genres, including classical, Hindustani, Chinese, West African, Indonesian gamelan, Native American, fiddling and folk, pop/rock, jazz, blues and improvisation. In addition to technique, I emphasize developing a well-rounded knowledge of music theory and ear training.
COMPOSITION AND MUSIC THEORY LESSONS:
As a composer, I have studied composition with some of the best composers in the field. My primary interests include classical, microtonal, avant-garde, opera, electro-acoustic, performance art, music for dance, and world music. I am also comfortable teaching commercial/popular music and film scoring, as well as jazz and blues. My students benefit from my vast knowledge of a wide range of genres, and I work with them to perfect their compositional technique and theory.
ENGLISH LESSONS:
As a seasoned English teacher, I have taught in both private and public schools, as well as in business settings. Students who wish to improve their English language skills for academic, professional, or conversational purposes can benefit from my immersive and well-rounded approach. I am skilled in accent elimination and can help students at various levels, from beginner to advanced, with their conversational, writing, and reading skills.
