Description:

I am an ASCAP-affiliated composer who has won several awards. My specialties include piano, voice, and dramatic coaching. Pop/standards-jazz piano improv is my area of expertise, with chordings, voicings, and individual creativity forming the basis of my teaching. However, I am also trained in classical music.
I have worked with San Francisco Opera Chorus for 18 seasons and Lamplighters Music Theatre for 8 seasons. Additionally, I have directed and produced plays with other theatrical groups.
I follow the bel canto vocal method, which focuses on proper voice placement, breath control, support, and diction. I also give lessons in basic music theory and sight singing.
I offer private lessons at my home in Santa Clara or within a 20-mile radius of where you live. My services are limited to adults aged 20 and above- no children.
My approach to teaching is friendly and relaxed; my goal is to encourage students to have fun and enjoy themselves. My motto is simple: avoid stress.
I charge $40 per session, which typically lasts at least an hour. If we go over, there are no extra fees.

After a decade-long hiatus from playing piano, I've taken two lessons with Ken to get back into the groove. Within just a couple of hours, he broke down the intricacies of piano playing that were once daunting to me. Ken's teaching style is engaging and exciting, making learning a joyous experience. Without reservation, I would gladly suggest him to anyone looking to learn piano while having a good time.

Ken's teaching style is exactly what I was searching for - welcoming, humorous, patient, and professional. Due to my timid disposition, I was reluctant to embark on vocal lessons. However, after completing my second session, I eagerly anticipate my next meeting with him. Ken is an excellent instructor!

After having taken five lessons with Ken, I can confidently confirm that he is an exceptional teacher. His animated demeanor and evident love for teaching add value to his lessons. During my initial encounter with him, he provided a music theory assessment and basic drills. Since then, he has aided me in breaking negative playing habits and encouraged the development of a more fluid playing and practice technique, unlike my previous, more rigid method. Additionally, Ken teaches a diverse range of musical genres and collaborates with you to determine your musical aspirations. Undoubtedly, he is an adaptable instructor who will cater to your desired outcomes. Five-star rating!

Ken is someone who inspires me greatly. His unwavering passion is truly extraordinary, and he has a talent for guiding you towards achieving your goals within a sensible timeframe. Nevertheless, it's important to remember that success requires hard work, so you must be prepared to put in the effort. Personally, I plan to continue taking lessons from Ken for an extended period of time.
