Description:

To achieve success in cello playing, a positive attitude, patience, and dedication to practice are essential, no matter how difficult the task may seem. As for myself, I hold a B.M. from Northwestern University, as well as M.M. and G.C. degrees from USC where I had the privilege of studying under world-renowned cello pedagogues, including Hans Jorgen Jensen and Ralph Kirshbaum. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to learn from the exceptional Itzhak Perlman at his summer music program for five consecutive years.

My professional experience includes being a Fellow in the Los Angeles Orchestra Fellowship, where I not only performed with LACO, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, but also mentored young talents of ICYOLA, the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles. I am also a co-artistic director of Mixtape Series, an innovative concert series with genre-defying programs that have been receiving attention and accolades from audiences and arts leaders in Los Angeles. In recognition of my skills, I was awarded USC's First Prize at the Solo Bach Competition and have had the honor of performing as a soloist at various prestigious venues, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, and the Auditorio Blas Galindo in Mexico City.

Juan assisted my daughter in resuming playing after a 2-year injury-induced hiatus from her cello. He went beyond just teaching her the song for her grandparents' funeral, and instead focused on refining her technique so that she could play pain-free.

Juan-Salvador is an exceptional professional who excels both as a cellist in his own right and as a wonderful teacher. He possesses a rare blend of kindness, thoroughness, clarity, and patience, all while pushing his students to excel beyond their current capabilities. As a descendant of Eleonore Schoenfeld, Ron Leonard, Hans Jensen, and Ralph Kirshbaum, Juan-Salvador brings their insightful teachings to each lesson. His lessons are efficient yet enjoyable, thanks to his great sense of humor and striking appearance. Without a doubt, he receives a 5 out of 5 stars and comes highly recommended.

Our experience working with Juan was fantastic. He diligently concentrated on the specific areas where my daughter required assistance and successfully elevated her playing to the next level. Additionally, the report he provided was exceptional. Even though they had a lot of fun, they still accomplished their task. As a result, my daughter emerged as the first chair in her orchestra!

Not only is Juan-Salvador incredibly talented with the cello, but he is also a phenomenal teacher who consistently encourages his students to improve their technique and work ethic. Rather than emphasizing the number of pieces learned, he prioritizes deep exploration of each piece, emphasizing intonation and finger placement. Quality is key with him. In sum, Juan-Salvador taught me how to enhance my cello playing abilities through challenging pieces that stretched my capabilities.
