Description:

My name is Jean-Michel Jacquon and I specialize in teaching violin and viola through the Suzuki and Traditional methods in Honolulu. Both children (ages 6 and up) and adults are welcome to take lessons from me, as I have over 25 years of teaching experience and have performed in over 2400 concerts throughout Hawaii as a full-time member of the Honolulu Symphony and now the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

My teaching approach offers a blend of the Suzuki and Traditional methods, incorporating listening and playing by ear with early note reading, scales, and studies. I believe this combination creates a positive environment for students to develop their skills and love of music, while also providing a quality musical education.

My teaching philosophy focuses on the total development of each student, with an emphasis on building confidence, self-esteem, and personality through consistent positive reinforcement. I take pride in helping my students reach their desired goals, providing a detailed program of study tailored to their individual needs.

Mr Jacquon is a remarkable instructor who exhibits remarkable patience with both youngsters and adults. He has a unique ability to teach challenging musical instruments such as the violin or the viola in no time. With Mr Jacquon, learning becomes an enjoyable experience, as he never pressures his students beyond their competency level. I had the privilege of enrolling two of my children under his tutelage, one of whom took lessons from him for more than five years, and the progress she made was astounding. In addition, Mr Jacquon is a proficient musician with the local symphony orchestra, which is an added plus. Without a doubt, if you aspire to learn string instruments from an outstanding instructor, I highly recommend Mr Jacquon.

We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have found Mr. Jacquon as my son's violin teacher. For the past seven years, he has been an absolutely exceptional instructor. Not only does he possess extraordinary musical talents, but he is also incredibly patient and has a remarkable way with children. My son thoroughly enjoys his violin lessons with Mr. Jacquon and has made impressive progress under his guidance. In fact, he successfully auditioned for the Punahou Advanced Orchestra in seventh grade, and we attribute his achievement to Mr. Jacquon's teaching skills. He excels at imparting technical knowledge and drawing attention to details, and we are impressed with his flexibility and consideration when it comes to make-up classes. Whenever we are unable to attend a lesson due to scheduling conflicts, Mr. Jacquon always goes out of his way to reschedule another class at the earliest opportunity.

Jean-Michel was my daughter’s violin instructor in Hawaii for about a year. We were fortunate to have found such a talented and compassionate teacher. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her lessons and saw significant progress in her abilities. She acquired skills not commonly taught in school, leading her to secure a higher seat in the school orchestra within a few months of lessons. Unfortunately, we had to discontinue lessons after moving to another state. Nevertheless, we remain grateful for Jean-Michel’s wonderful violin techniques and teachings, as well as his kindness and generosity. We wholeheartedly recommend him as a violin teacher for his outstanding skills and equally remarkable personality.

For the past 8 years, Jean-Michel has been teaching my five children, starting with my youngest two at the age of four. He has a remarkable ability to be patient, kind, and engaging with his young students. All of my children adore him and find playing the violin to be enjoyable under his tutelage. While being fun, Jean-Michel also upholds a high level of professionalism and holds his students to a high standard. Thanks to his expertise and dedication, three of my children have earned spots in the Hawaii Youth Symphony, and one of my high school graduates has even received a scholarship for violin.
