Jamie Andreson

Drawing on my experiences in M.A. and PhD programs in both Brazil and the U.S., I have honed my skills as a language teacher, translator, and interpreter with a particular focus on English and Portuguese, leveraging my existing knowledge of Spanish.

Over the years, I have secured a number of independent grants, including support from both the Fulbright-Hays and the Ruth Landes Memorial Center.

As the creative force behind the bilingual Brazil Culture Connections Podcast (link in bio), I've had the opportunity to explore and share rich and insightful perspectives on Brazilian culture.

Moreover, my professional pursuits extend beyond the world of language and culture, particularly in the arena of performing arts and grant writing for small businesses, non-profit organizations, and cultural institutions.

Currently serving as a postdoctoral scholar at Pennsylvania State University, I bring to the table a distinguished educational background, including a BA in History from UC Berkeley (graduated with High Honors), an MA in Ethnic Studies from the Federal University of Bahia (with coursework in Portuguese), and a PhD in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan (2020).

In addition to publishing a book in Portuguese with the Editora UFBA Press in Salvador, Brazil (Ruth Landes e a Cidade das Mulheres: uma releitura da antropologia do Candomblé, 2019), I've also written and published numerous academic articles, and spearheaded a range of exciting public scholarship projects in collaboration with archives, religious centers, universities, photo exhibits, and documentaries.
