Jae Kyo Han's lifelong passion for pianos has taken many forms: Steinway Educational Partner instructor, pianist, piano tuner/technician, apprentice piano rebuilder, and founder of A4 Collective. Introduced to the piano at a young age, Jae quickly gained recognition for his talents in statewide and regional competitions. He was a finalist in the 14th Chiang Wen-Yeh International Young Artist Piano Competition and was twice selected to perform at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival.
After completing graduate studies in classical piano performance, Jae directed a music school in New York City and apprenticed as a piano tuner/technician. For over a decade, he has taught students of all ages and abilities, focusing on creating a comfortable learning environment that fosters curiosity and a continuous desire to improve. As an instructor, Jae draws on his decades of performance experience to guide students in effective practice, music theory, sight-reading, listening skills, and more.
In 2022, Jae founded A4 Collective in the second-floor space above Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn. A4 Collective is the culmination of Jae's various explorations of the piano and his desire to expand classical music's reach. This space is not just for music lessons; it is a community center where people can meet, exchange ideas, and grow through the context of music. Jae is not only a great person but also an exceptionally organized and thorough instructor. Jae is an amazing teacher! During my maternity leave, I had the opportunity to receive lessons from him and I must say that it was truly an enjoyable experience. Within a short span of time, I was able to learn a lot and the lessons were always engaging and exciting. Jae's approach to teaching is quite thoughtful, as he ensures that the activities are always fun and fresh, which keeps the students engaged. Furthermore, his camera set up, comprising one camera on him, one on his piano, and another on the musical notation that he scribbles with his ipad pencil, is very professional and aids in virtual learning. I aspire to resume lessons with him sometime in the future, when life has stabilized a bit!
