Hi there, my name is John and I am a tutor with extensive experience in Math, English, test-prep, and chess. Over the past 5 years, I have tutored in several cities, most recently in the Bay Area. I have worked with students ranging from preschool to first-year college, including remedial, autistic, ADHD, ADD, advanced and exceptional students. My tutoring sessions have taken place in various locations such as schools, libraries, homes, and mostly online with group sizes ranging from 1-6.
My approach to tutoring is tailored to each student's needs and challenges, allowing me to meet them where they are and guide them towards their full potential. I make use of various textbooks and methods like CP/M, AoPS, Flexbooks, IXL, YouTube, and Khan Academy, in addition to online resources, apps, and games. My aim is to make Math and test-prep interesting and fun by relating it to real-life scenarios, while asking students to focus, work hard, and be honest. My ultimate goal is to help students learn the basics and gain confidence in advanced skills, while also fostering long-lasting friendships.
While my experience primarily includes 3-8th grade students for tutoring and 5-8th grade students for teaching, I work well with high-school and college students. I have consistently assisted students in achieving success in their classes and higher scores in tests like the SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, SAT, PSAT, among others. Many of my students have gone from 50-60 percentile to 70-90 and even 97-99 scores.
