I strongly advise against collaborating with JR.

Last week, my spouse and I called this individual to request a replacement for our garage door, which connects the garage to the house. Before purchasing the house, we were quoted a price by a general contractor, but I wanted a second opinion. Despite several attempts to schedule a visit, the individual arrived and took a few measurements, asked a couple of questions, and promised to keep in touch (it was a job that took less than 20 minutes). I was advised to pay a $120 initial fee, with the rest to be added or deducted later, which seemed suspicious at the time, but I trusted him. Later in the day, we received a text message informing us that the door repair would cost $1040. Additionally, I had to pay a $500 deposit and the remainder would be due after the installation. Keep in mind that the general contractor who initially visited us only quoted $500. I was informed that the entire door frame, trim, and drywall would have to be removed, despite the fact that it was only supposed to be a straightforward door replacement. This appeared to be very overpriced and far beyond our budget, so we decided to politely decline his services and request our $120 back. Unfortunately, he denied our refund and stated that he charged a fee, claiming he had driven an hour each way to visit our home (which had not been stated prior). As a result, I not only lost $120 for no work done but also ended up with an unrepaired door. In the future, I will be more cautious when selecting service providers, and will inquire about payment requirements prior to payment. If you're comparing prices, it's best to seek out "free consultations" or anything less than a $120 fee. I want to stress that the individual was very kind, responsive, and accommodating, and seemed to be very knowledgeable, but be mindful of his pricing whether you choose to hire him or not. Lesson learned: Take the time to research and ask plenty of questions in advance.
