Description:

My name has been included on the list of 20 Yoga Teachers of Color to Watch in 2020. I am deeply passionate about my profession as a yoga and meditation instructor, having started practicing yoga at the age of 15 when it was merely a Physical Education credit. From my third class onwards, I knew that teaching yoga was my calling.

My teaching approach centers around a trauma-informed perspective, emphasizing Hatha yoga with safe alignment principles in mind. Furthermore, I specialize in restorative yoga to promote optimal relaxation using props, Yin yoga for the purpose of cultivating mindfulness and stretching connective tissues, and various types of meditation such as mindfulness, calm abiding, and yoga nidra.

I have previously taught different populations including BIPOC groups, teenagers and youth, seniors, and individuals in recovery.

After noticing my clients struggling to cope with the events of 2020 and 2021, I decided to enlist Hien's services to hold space for them. Although I always strive to support my clients in a holistic manner, which includes emotional, mental, and spiritual support, these aspects are not my main area of expertise as a business coach. Thus, I searched for someone who could guide us through some movement, such as yoga and enhance our overall wellbeing. I appreciated that Hien has trauma-informed experience and also honors the roots of yoga, which is a rarity. Our class was amazing, and I am happy that I made the decision to employ Hien. She was easy to communicate with and did an extraordinary job. I highly recommend taking her class and working with her.

Hien is an exceptional teacher who creates a safe space for individuals to engage in yoga and meditation while paying homage to both the practitioner and tradition. Her classes are infused with humor and humility, leaving me feeling more centered and relaxed in my own skin each time. Hien encourages every student to exercise their sense of agency, nurturing an environment of empowerment. The beauty of her teachings is that they cater to individuals from all backgrounds and skill levels, offering something for beginners and experts alike.

I truly appreciated the diverse elements encompassed in her class. It was beyond solely executing yoga exercises that harmonized with the level of her students. She also delivered teachings on the ideology of yoga and the contrasts between its original usage and modern-day interpretations. Additionally, I found delight in acquiring knowledge on various meditations as well as novel stretches and postures.

Despite never having taken a yoga class before, I have found you to be a truly exceptional yoga teacher. Your class was thoroughly enjoyable, and I am now equipped with exercises to ease muscle pain and meditation techniques to cope with stress. Your guidance has been invaluable to me, and I cannot thank you enough for your teachings. To me, you are the best yoga teacher at SAMi, and I have no doubt that you will continue to make a positive impact on your students.
