I had arranged for a deck job to be done today, but the contractor called me 1.5 hours before the appointment to say that he could not do the work. When I asked when he could come, he suggested it might be possible in four days or that I find someone else. It was evident that he had found a more desirable job and decided to back out at the last minute. When I pointed out that I had already hired him, he said that I had not signed a contract. Frustrated, I hung up and decided to forget about the job. It was a disappointing and inconsiderate experience as a customer, and I learned an important lesson.
