I would like to give a strong recommendation based on my personal experience of eliminating old soil and mulch from the paver patio area. Furthermore, I removed a few bushes and then proceeded to put down a fabric liner and landscaping stones made out of Buck chips. The project was well-communicated beforehand as well as throughout.
