BACKGROUND Ever since I was eleven years old, I have been deeply immersed in Japanese language and culture. My passion has taken me to Japan multiple times, allowing me to gain an in-depth understanding of the language and how it permeates through society. As an empathic instructor, I strive to help my clients reach their Japanese proficiency goals by working with them to identify their unique motivations and develop a personalized roadmap to success. Witnessing my clients' growth brings me tremendous joy.
TEACHING APPROACH For those who prefer self-study, I provide access to handpicked, reliable third-party resources that supplement individual learning. Our in-person sessions will focus on expanding vocabulary, building kanji skills, and enhancing writing ability through various exercises and games. To enhance learning, I utilize the SRS (Spaced Repetition System) method, which has been proven to effectively embed information into long-term memory. This is ideal for language learning. For students who are already taking Japanese classes, I will tailor lessons to match their curriculum and incorporate the SRS method to help them excel.
SESSION POLICIES Every Sunday, an invitation will be sent to you with details of the virtual session. If there is a requirement for specific software, a link will be provided to download it. I will be punctual and ready to start at the scheduled time. I will wait for 15 minutes before exiting the room if you are not present or have not informed me of any delays. In the event of a missed session, a standard fee of $10 will be requested via PayPal.

Sam was an amazing Japanese tutor! I thoroughly enjoyed my time learning from him. He was extremely patient, kind and made the entire experience fun. What impressed me the most, though, was the way he was able to connect with me, using my limited knowledge of the language as a basis to start our lessons. He was genuinely interested in my learning goals and tailored our sessions to incorporate a Japanese folk song that I had learned in college. This was a great method to start the grammar lessons whilst using words I already knew how to pronounce. Sam is not only a great guy, but a fantastic teacher as well.
