As an experienced piano teacher, I am committed to providing my students with the best possible techniques and personalized programs. My name is Dr. Michele Cohen and I was born and raised in Salvador, Brazil. I obtained my Doctorate in Piano Performance from Indiana University, and I have had the privilege of being mentored by some of the most prominent pianists worldwide. Notably, I have performed in prominent venues such as Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York, the Brazilian Embassy in DC, and the Chicago Cultural Center's Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series. I have also taught piano courses at Indiana University School of Music and have recently developed the Musical Arts Program at the International Schools in Beijing, China. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I work with students at every level of expertise from beginner to experienced professional.
My winning program brings the finest practices from pianists worldwide, and each student will learn flawless technique rooted in years of experimentation. This approach allows for playing without tension, enabling one to play beautifully and freely. As my student, you will discover how to focus on expression, crafting a sound that is uniquely yours through my exclusive interval-based technique that makes reading music intuitive.
In addition to fundamental piano skills, I integrate theory, history, and improvisation, exposing each student to the endless possibilities of music as an expressive language. Right from the outset, we develop a complete approach to the piano, and parents, your children will develop a love and appreciation for music. As we progress, we explore advanced improvisation, building creative fluency. Several of my students have won scholarships and other professional competitions nationwide.

Having the opportunity to study piano with Dr. Cohen is a great blessing! I acquired the skill of playing the piano since childhood but decided to renew my interest earlier this year. Dr. Cohen has assessed my level of playing and has been able to recommend music that perfectly suits my ability. She is also proficient in identifying my strengths and weaknesses, and assists in improving my technical and musical capabilities. What I admire most about her teaching approach is that she doesn't just point out my mistakes, but takes time to help me understand the essence of the music and the perfect way to produce the right sound.
