With over two decades of experience teaching percussion and drums, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. My musical journey began at the age of 15 when I first started teaching, and I have since acquired a degree in music education from the University of Illinois, as well as a masters and doctorate in organizational leadership. Furthering my skill-set, I also completed a certificate program at Harvard University in Change Management.
Throughout my career, I have taught over 1,000 percussion/drum students, all of whom have eventually made their top high school ensemble. Moreover, many of my students have been named all-state musicians, and quite a few have received full or partial music scholarships, despite majoring in areas outside of music. My passion for jazz has led me to become the youngest director in the Midwest Clinic's history to direct a feature performance. Additionally, I have successfully led several groups to state and regional championships using my skills in developing drum set players. In 2018, I directed the All-State Jazz Band for the state of Illinois.
As a skilled performer, I have also played snare and tenors for the Marching Illini for four years, as well as performing for World Class Drum and Bugle corps for seven years. After aging out, I taught for another four years. I have also written and arranged music for drum corps, college, and high school marching bands all over the United States. Presently, I serve as the director of fine arts at a Chicago Suburban High School, where I continue to cultivate my students' musical potential.
Finally, I'm excited to share my knowledge and experience with students who wish to grow their passion for music while maximizing their potential as percussionists. Regardless of your interests in classical percussion, drum set or marching percussion, I have decades of experience teaching highly successful students in each of those areas. Feel free to reach out to me; I look forward to hearing from you!
