Description:

Greetings, everyone!

My name is Denise Martel Bovie and I run a private teaching studio as a music teacher. For the past 25 years, I've had the pleasure of teaching students privately, mostly in my hometown of Somerset, MA. I specialize in teaching violin and viola to students of all levels, ranging from beginners of any age to those who are intermediate and advanced, including high school and college-level students. I also offer beginning and intermediate lessons in bass and cello.

I am enthusiastic about teaching people of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs. I believe in taking an individualized approach to my teaching style, catering to each student's specific interests and needs. I make learning fun, be it the basics, classical, pop, rock, folk or fiddling!

Lessons can be taught one-on-one online or in-person, depending on your preference.

I truly enjoy guiding students through their learning journey, whether they're just starting off, honing their skills or looking to make a career in music! Seeing my students grow and mature as musicians is a very rewarding experience for me, and it's something I take a lot of pride in.

I focus on developing proper playing techniques and body mechanics, as well as good musicianship, to ensure students play with ease, expression, and a beautiful tone. I emphasize the importance of note reading and music understanding, which allows students to learn and enjoy new music independently over time.

I encourage students to learn how to properly care for their instruments and bows, including changing strings and polishing instruments, so they can maintain their instrument's pristine look and sound for years to come.

You might be pleased to know that many of my students have been selected to perform or solo with various orchestras, including Southeastern Massachusetts Youth Orchestra (SEMAYO)/ New Bedford Symphony Youth Orchestra (NBSYO), Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO), and more.

Lesson pricing starts at $24 for 30-minute lessons, $36 for 45-minute lessons, and $48 for 60-minute lessons. I am available to teach Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings, as well as on Saturdays. If you need earlier or later times, we can work that out, but please be sure to contact me first to arrange it.

Parents of young children are welcome to attend lessons with their child, as it helps them understand what their child is learning and allows them to be more helpful during home practice sessions.

Lastly, please note that I am happy to teach children and adults with special needs (such as autism, learning, and physical challenges), so please inform me of any special needs or concerns.

If you have any questions about my experience, teaching techniques, lesson policies, setting up an instrument rental or purchase in order to begin lessons, or anything else, please feel free to reach out to me via CrackerJack, phone, email, or my Facebook business site "Denise Martel Bovie - String Instrument Lessons," where I have additional information. I try my best to answer all inquiries within a few hours of receiving them.

I'm a proud member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and have a 5-year Bachelor of Music in Music Education with an Instrumental Performance Emphasis (Summa Cum Laude) from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, CT, and a Master of Arts in Music Education with an Instrumental Performance Emphasis (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this. If you're interested in starting a lesson with me, I'm excited to hear from you!

My experience learning violin with Denise has been truly wonderful. As someone in my 30s, this is my first instrument. I initially began with in-person lessons about a year ago, but had to switch to online lessons after just 2 months due to my move out of the area. Despite not being in the same room, I've been thoroughly impressed with Denise's ability to identify even the smallest adjustments that are crucial to improving tone and pitch during our virtual lessons. Her vast teaching experience is evident and greatly appreciated. Additionally, Denise is very conscious of the material she selects for each lesson, ensuring that it will set the learner up for success. To sum up, I highly recommend Denise as an expert stringed instrument teacher.

My teacher Denise has been wonderful and has made adjustments to fit my schedule. Although I haven't played music in many years and have limited knowledge of the violin, each lesson inspires me to keep going. The recommended beginners' materials have exceeded my expectations. I'm thrilled with my progress and excited to continue my lessons and reignite my passion for music!

I highly recommend Denise - she is incredibly friendly, easy to work with and has been an excellent teacher, especially since the cello is the first stringed instrument I've ever played. She has tailored our lessons to exactly the level I need and they have continued to be stimulating and informative. I started taking lessons with her in 2019 in person, but when the pandemic hit we switched to online lessons - Denise made the transition incredibly smooth and hassle-free. Learning to play the cello can be quite challenging, but after each lesson with Denise, I have felt incredibly motivated to keep going. Whether online or in person, Denise has a keen eye for identifying small adjustments that can make a big difference to my sound. I would highly recommend Denise to anyone hoping to learn an instrument, regardless of age or skill level!

Denise proved to be an exceptionally empathetic teacher. She went out of her way to assist me with any concerns I had regarding my cello. Additionally, whenever I required changes to the scheduling of my lessons, Denise was very flexible and understanding.

For the past 2 1/2 months, I've been taking cello lessons as a beginner. I was uncertain about what to expect, but my experience has been delightful. Denise Martel Bovie, my instructor, is phenomenal. Given my background as a retired teacher, I appreciate her level of preparation and the way she expertly structures our lessons. With her gift for clear and thoughtful instruction, she gracefully guides me through the more arduous parts of learning to play. I relish every week's lesson with Denise and consider her a treasure.
