During my six years at Chetham's School of Music, I received private lessons in both composition and performance from various teachers whom I greatly admire and still occasionally learn from. I studied classical and jazz guitar, as well as piano, and also delved into percussion by self-teaching the banjo, ukulele, and other instruments. When I joined, the school was short on percussionists, so I picked up the remaining parts and gradually worked my way up to the principal timpani parts. I also played the tenor banjo in Rhapsody in Blue and the ukulele and five-string banjo in works by my peers. In my final year, I co-commissioned and conducted the premiere of Andrew Keeling's symphony for chamber orchestra, which I raised half of the funding for by organizing local concerts.
Although I decided to forgo higher education shortly before leaving Chetham's, I have since developed extensive knowledge and experience that I incorporate into my teachings. I strive to provide my students with a thorough understanding of compositional technique and theory, as well as improvisation and music history and culture. With each lesson, I teach my students how to construct and manifest their musical ideas and interpretations, from the very first note they play.

Although I am not the sharpest tool in the shed or the quickest learner, Cassidy possesses the patience of a wise teacher and the ability to explain concepts in various ways to aid my understanding. As a result of enduring the extended effects of ulnar nerve damage in my left arm and hand, I made the choice to engage in guitar lessons. I have been playing guitar for nearly four decades, and losing the ability to play as proficiently as before has been quite disheartening. After taking only three lessons with Cassidy, I have observed that he possesses ample knowledge of repertoire and techniques that can benefit my condition. Furthermore, he invests his time in ensuring that I have the necessary resources to improve throughout the week. With Cassidy's straightforward teaching style, I am optimistic that I can retrain myself and regain much of the ground I've lost in recent years.
