Because we've always had dogs, when we rescued our new pet, we weren't too concerned. However, Henry had several issues. He would jump on people and dogs, nip, and had trouble with the leash. But the most troubling aspect was when he would immediately switch from being a cute little dog to becoming hyper and aggressive if someone or a dog turned their back on him. It wasn't good.
We attempted to utilize group training in the local pet store, but Henry was very disruptive. The store suggested we try socialization via their daycare program, but even after an initial evaluation, they refused to take him. We refused to let Henry fail and researched until we found Canine Compassion and Healing with Thommy Harley on CrackerJack. Thommy's values and descriptions on his site opened our eyes to him.
When Thommy came to our home, our crazy little dog wasn't threatened by his calming presence, and it appeared that they immediately understood each other. Thommy trained me by explaining what triggered Henry and why. You can't change a behavior if you don't understand the why. After the first session, I knew Henry was going to succeed.
A few days later, Thommy took us to a bustling environment with a shopping center, pet store, walking spaces with lots of sounds, distractions, trucks, people, and animals. Henry amazed us! He didn't tug on his leash, gently approached dogs and people, and although he was still very interested in everything going on, he wasn't aggressive or barking hysterically. It seemed like he understood he could be curious and confident at the same time, and it was all due to Thommy's guidance throughout our outing.
Thommy also provided us with tips on feeding, toys, and activities, and suggested other resources to investigate. Don't hesitate to read Thommy's thoughts on dog behavior. The phrase "Compassion and Healing" sums it all up. Call Thommy to become confident and joyful with your canine companion!
