Along with traditional estate planning goals, such as creating a will and appointing a Power of Attorney, my primary focus is protecting families and assets from the exceptional expenses associated with long term care. This encompasses both pre-planning to safeguard assets from extended nursing home stays and crisis planning when an individual already requires such care. I am also a credited Department of Veterans Affairs representative who assists veterans and their families in obtaining their entitled benefits, particularly Improved or Death Pensions that supplement care expenses. As a society, we often avoid discussing the mounting costs of aging and increased care necessities. Clients approach me with concerns of losing everything if a spouse gets sick or asking for advice on how to care for their loved one while leaving something for the other. Assuaging such worries by providing options is the highlight of my job. The day is made even better when we can help someone acquire a VA pension or have a Medicaid application approved, allowing spouses or children to focus solely on the emotional and physical needs of their loved one.
