About
Lessons can be taken either in-person at Twin Town Guitars in Minneapolis or online using Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime. As an instructor, I aim to tailor each lesson to the unique needs and objectives of each individual student. My role is to guide them along their chosen path, helping them to discover their own musical voice and achieve their personal goals.Teaching and playing drums is something that never ceases to fascinate and entertain me. As everyone learns in different ways, I am continually searching for new approaches to explain concepts to each student, thereby deepening my own understanding of fundamental principles.
Since 2002, I have been an active teacher with students of all ages, abilities, and from all aspects of percussion. I have developed my own drum set teaching method, Focused Coordination, which is now a published two-book series, and I regularly contribute to DRUMHEAD magazine as an educational columnist for drum set players. My expertise extends to hand percussion, orchestral band, marching band, drum corps, and mallet percussion. With degrees in percussion performance and studio engineering, I have a passion for both playing and recording sound.
I offer both in-studio and online lessons.

Since 2012, Ben has been my drum instructor and he is an exceptional teacher. Beginning my journey as a novice to now being able to play a range of songs, Ben's expertise is evident in his ability to easily transcribe non-English language pieces. Teaching another to possess incredible skill and talent is a true gift. For three years now, our son Jason has been taking drum set lessons from Ben, who exudes great enthusiasm, patience, and understanding in each session. Ben has imparted a wealth of knowledge to Jason, particularly in the area of music notation. He has also exposed Jason to new practice methods and styles while aiding him in achieving personal goals, including tryouts and mallet work for Wind Ensemble, Varsity Jazz, Drumline, and more.
