About
At the Lab, my students and I are both creators and problem solvers in the world of music. My passion lies in guiding them towards their goals through customized and efficient teaching methods. While I provide a gentle nudge when required, we work together as a flexible team to produce our most beautiful music. My 20-year career as a solo and chamber musician has included performances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Chanel Nexus Hall. As an educator, I cherish the ability to share the profound joy of being a music maker with others. This unique experience deepens one's appreciation and connection to music and other fellow creators.
Together with my students, we embark on a comprehensive musical journey encompassing cello technique, musicianship, ear training, music theory, and the exploration of individual creativity.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, I offer online instruction through Zoom solely as a precautionary measure.

For 3-4 years, our daughter has been taking lessons with the amazing instructor Cicely. Cicely is a phenomenal teacher because she establishes connections with her pupils and exudes kindness and encouragement. Our daughter appreciates that Cicely doesn't rely on a regular textbook, but instead assigns demanding pieces that push her towards developing her abilities.

I consider myself fortunate to have Cicely as my teacher. Not having any prior experience with string instruments, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that she also taught beginners. From the beginning of my journey, Cicely has prioritized the basics - such as posture and bow hold - and has taken a step-by-step approach to my education. During our sessions, we take the time to analyze and address any technique or practicing difficulties, without hurrying through them to get to assignments. Cicely possesses impressive analytical skills, breaking problems down to suggest alternative approaches, such as incorporating rhythm practice. She sets practical goals for each session, which has helped me keep on track with my weekly practice as an adult student.
