Tim Lin Music Instruction

I have been teaching music professionally since 2010, alongside my career as a full-time performing musician. My approach to teaching is tailored to each individual student's needs and is organized and systematic, with a focus on disciplined hard work and dedication. I offer lessons in 30 or 60-minute intervals and have experience working with students of all ages.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tim Lin is a Taiwanese American jazz musician whose sound is influenced by the bebop jazz tradition. He was mentored by bay area saxophonist and educator Dann Zinn, which inspired him to pursue jazz. He attended the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, studying with jazz artist Bob Sheppard, and was a member of the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra and Honors Combo.

As a sideman, Tim has performed with jazz luminaries such as Kenny Burrell, Tootie Heath, and Terri Lyne Carrington, and has played at numerous festivals and venues both nationally and internationally. He now resides in the San Francisco Bay Area and is an active jazz artist, educator, and composer, preparing to release his debut album.

In his twenties, Tim has performed with renowned jazz musicians such as Kenny Burrell and Tootie Heath, and has played at festivals such as Monterey Jazz Festival and San Jose Jazz Festival. He now resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he is an active jazz artist, educator, and composer, preparing to release his debut album.
