Hello, it's great to meet you! My name is Raq (pronounced "rock"), which is short for Raquelle. Welcome to the School of Raq!

As a musician, I have received extensive training in classical and commercial music. Along with my bachelor's degree in Commercial Voice, I have over a decade of professional performance experience, have worked in the Nashville music industry, and possess some knowledge of recording technologies. Being equipped with these skills makes me an ideal candidate to help you reach your full potential as a successful musician. At the School of Raq, I offer lessons in various categories. You can learn classical and commercial piano, singing in classical, commercial, musical theatre, and choral styles, gender-affirming voice lessons, beginner/rhythm guitar, basic scales, music and composition theory, songwriting, and music for holistic healing and self-development. While my courses are tailored to suit commercial music enthusiasts, I also offer classical lessons as it's a style that's close to my heart. My lessons are designed to help you become the best performer, whether in the studio or on stage, by drawing ideas from my personal experiences within the modern music industry.

I approach teaching holistically, emphasizing breath work, meditation, and teaching students how to practice efficiently. Though practice is crucial, it shouldn't be gruelling. Therefore, I work with my students to create personalized practice schedules that are practical and efficient. Through my teaching, I have seen tremendous growth not only in students' technical skills but also in their personal development. Learning music builds perseverance, encourages self-exploration, and is an excellent emotional outlet.

I am an LGBTQIA+ friendly, disabled-friendly, trauma and mental health informed instructor who does not discriminate against any individual based on their race, class, gender, religion, or national origin. I teach all ages, but please note that before enrolling your child in my lessons, there are a few disclaimers.

If your child is five or older and knows how to read, they can begin taking piano lessons. Guitar is a bit more challenging, and I recommend that students wait until they are ten years or older to avoid discomfort from finger calluses. However, I'm willing to work with any child who is eager to learn. Vocal lessons are still acceptable for children aged eight or nine, and though I may not teach much vocal technique as with teens or adults, we can explore topics like sight-reading, performance techniques, and developing a sense of interoception.
