About
Kindly take note that all painting classes will be conducted via Zoom for remote learning purposes. In my classes, my main focus is on teaching my students how to view their surroundings in a new way and also on perfecting their accuracy in observation. Through various exercises, we work on developing spontaneity and exploring the technical foundations of painting or drawing. The classes are structured in such a way that each lesson seamlessly builds on the previous one so that students come out of the program with a comprehensive understanding of the art of creation, rather than just a set of steps to follow. We work collaboratively to not only improve technical proficiency and achieve specific goals but to establish the confidence to create anywhere from kitchen tables to coffee shops and hotel balconies.

My journey with Kelsey began during the autumn season, and I immediately noticed significant progress in both my art skills and interest in the hobby. My primary focus was on line work, human gestures, and emotions. Surprisingly, within a brief period of five weeks, I went from producing two-minute sketches to creating fully shaded portraits.
Throughout Kelsey's lessons, she was consistently courteous, professional, and meticulous in her explanation of complex concepts. She successfully broke everything down into easily emulatable steps, making it easy for beginners, and always ensured that all details were understood.
I am thrilled to have discovered drawing as a hobby, and I attribute my success in no small part to Kelsey's excellent classes.

At the age of 70, drawing has always been a passion of mine. However, my skills were limited to basic stick figures and drawing faces seemed impossible. Yet, after attending around 15 lessons and using conte crayons to copy a Matisse portrait, I was able to achieve something impressive! Although I work slowly, my teacher, Kelsey, is incredibly patient, intuitively talented, and a joy to learn from. I feel fortunate to have found her and would highly recommend her teaching to anyone else. My second project, a self-portrait created with the same medium, is displayed on the right. It's hard to believe that I was able to produce such work, but thanks to Kelsey, I was able to accomplish it.

Kelsey's teaching of our 6 and 7-year-old sons was exceptional. Her focus was solely on enhancing their drawing skills. Kelsey's initial assessment of the children allowed her to develop a tailored curriculum that covered areas such as shading and perspective. She advised individual sessions for the boys to learn at their own pace, which proved right. Kelsey's positive and motivating nature played a significant role in their learning. Although we had to move out of town, we have recommended her to other families. Kelsey's teaching enabled our children to remain intently focused on one task for an extended period - something we had not seen before.

Taking lessons with Kelsey has been a wonderful experience. Her class is enjoyable, yet informative in terms of both science and technique with painting, as well as learning to draw. Being a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, my work is quite structured and at times stressful with no room for error. Therefore, painting with Kelsey has allowed for me to unwind, express myself, and even learn to appreciate the beauty in mistakes and the absence of order. I now have a newfound appreciation for color, hues, and depth when observing artwork. Thank you, Kelsey, for guiding me through this journey of art, color, and expression. Attached are some examples of my work, with the bike painting still in progress.

To enhance my 11-year old daughter's education beyond what she learned in school, I scheduled multiple sessions with Ms. Shwetz. An insightful instructor, Ms. Shwetz tailored her teaching to my daughter's speed, teaching valuable techniques and methods while working on a project.
Ms. Shwetz's approach was hands-on and encouraged my daughter's originality and interests. She was flexible and attentive to her students. Most notably, after the initial session, my daughter expressed her appreciation for how Ms. Shwetz "took her seriously" instead of treating her like a young student who simply draws. While my familiarity with Ms. Shwetz's teaching is limited to her work with children, I highly recommend her for any kind of lesson.
