Look for warning signs such as trainers who don't listen to you or make assumptions about your dog after an initial meeting. If the dogs they work with look "shut down" or if their "positive" method causes ineffective communication with the dog, or if they're unprofessional with scheduling or returning communications, it's best to seek a different trainer. If you get a tingle or uneasy feeling, it may be due to an unfitting trainer or your readiness for a particular training style. I have had great experiences with Sal and Perdis, having worked with different trainers before them. They are exceptional for multiple reasons. Firstly, Sal listens attentively, even when I make mistakes, as they value training the human component involved. We discuss things I don't comprehend and find alternative approaches if their initial instructions aren't effective. Even when I anthropomorphize my dog, Sal still listens, keen to obtain any relevant information. Secondly, Perdis is extremely efficient in scheduling and addressing queries. This is crucial, as dog trainers are better with canines than with people.
