Despite my intention to DIY, Don went the extra mile to send me links to the necessary lever type. I was touched by his kindness, especially because I am a single woman, a fact unbeknownst to him. A week later, I splurged on a high-end $250 Schlage Encode smart lock from Lowe's. Installing it proved challenging, and I was on the phone with customer service for hours before discovering that I'd stripped a screw, rendering the lock impossible to remove. Both Don and another company were contacted; however, the latter insisted on charging me after-hour fees since it was a Friday at 3 pm.
