Voice Studio of Amy Cheifetz Billings
Hello, I am Amy Cheifetz Billings, a voice teacher located in the charming downtown area of Summerville, South Carolina. Since 1998, I have been dedicated to coaching singers and performers of every age to unlock their unique vocal abilities. As a specialist in Musical Theatre repertoire/styles and audition/performance preparation, I teach a practical and versatile vocal technique that emphasizes vocal health and longevity. My students have performed on Broadway, with Regional companies across the United States and Canada, and in prestigious universities. They also appear regularly in local theatre companies and high school productions.
My personalized approach to teaching voice enables individuals to reveal the distinctive qualities of their instrument. Through our sessions together, we explore the full range of your vocal potential, while preparing you vocally, mentally, and practically for your chosen musical pathway. I also offer expert insights into what schools and theatre companies are looking for in prospective students and cast members.
To take advantage of my coaching services, my rates are $40 for 30 minutes, $55 for 45 minutes, and $65 for an hour.
Originally from Oakland, California, my musical journey began at the age of 10. I have advanced degrees in vocal performance from the University of California, Irvine and the University of Washington. In 1998, I relocated to New York City to study with world-renowned voice teacher and pedagogue Cornelius Reid, who became my mentor and inspired my passion for teaching. During my time in NYC, I was on the voice faculty of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA NY), had a successful private vocal studio, and regularly performed throughout the area. In 2011, my husband and I moved to Salem, Oregon, where I continued to maintain a thriving vocal studio, was a vocal director for numerous musicals, and performed with local theatres.
My recent musical theatre roles include The Witch in Into the Woods, the Woman in Marry Me A Little, and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz. I have also performed in numerous operas, such as Musetta in La Bohème, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Despina in Così fan tutte. Other memorable performances include a solo recital of German Lieder and American art songs at the Salle Cortot in Paris, France, and introducing young people to the world of opera through the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s Opera Outreach program.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. For further information about my teaching philosophy and my successful students, please visit my website. I am happy to answer any questions you may have or book a lesson with you.
